In 1360, the German Hanseatic League set up one of its import and export offices at Bryggen, dominating trade for almost 400 years. The area has a place on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, and you can explore one of Norway’s best known urban areas from the Middle Ages. Photo: Charlotte Hartvigsen Lem.

A grand feast

More than 200 events are planned, designed to meet all target groups who live by or from the ocean. This means the programme is not just for professionals—it’s an event for every citizen and visitors. All can participate in activities such as cultural events celebrating Bergen’s maritime heritage and educational workshops for schools and families.

The event is part of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, and aligned with its goals, the theme in Bergen this year is “A Safe and Predicted Ocean”.
