The site Voss Virka is designed for industries that turn biological resources and waste into high-value products while minimizing environmental impact. The project contributes to Vestland’s ambitious transition toward climate-neutral and circular economic systems and invites businesses that are:
- Innovating with bio-waste processing technologies
- Developing renewable energy solutions like biogas
- Creating high-value, low-waste bio-products for regional and global markets
Flagship projects and partners
At the heart of Voss Virka are strong foundational projects and leading partners:
- Biogas facility: A new biogas plant led by BIR will process regional food and organic waste, with an expected annual energy potential of ~28 GWh. Outputs include renewable energy and nutrient-rich bioproducts such as fertilizers.
- Insect biomass production :Pilot and industrial-scale larva production facilities transform organic waste into sustainable animal feed and protein substitutes, replacing imported soy and lowering environmental impact.
- Bio-Resource utilisation and upscaling: Beyond energy, the site enables upcycling of bio-residues into marketable bioproducts — integrating agriculture, technology, and circular industry.
